Non-metallic Gasket Materials and Applications

On the other hand, non metallic gasket ring is usually made from composite sheet materials such as aramid fiber, glass fiber, or PTFE. They are used with flat-face and raised-face flanges in low-pressure applications. No metal is used in their production and non metallic gasket assembly. Commonly available materials include:

The non metallic flat ring gasket tends to compress easily under bolt load. Since they contain no metal, they offer better corrosion resistance but can only handle a limited number of temperatures and pressures. Full-face non-metallic gaskets are suitable for flat-face flanges; Flat-ring gaskets are used with flanges with raised faces.
